In the past fifty years, archaeological practice has become increasingly technical, and the number of specialisms has given us unprecedented opportunities to understand the material reflections of human life, death, and belief systems. But, who were the first archaeologists? How do archaeologists know what they know? How are artefacts or sites used to interpret past human behaviour?
