The Doughnut Mix – Ecological Economics for Public Service Workers

“Doughnut economics” by Kate Raworth is one of the most important and popular recent books about economics because it invites ordinary people and organisations to think about how we can all help to create a safe and just space for humanity to thrive.
This 1-hour workshop provides a whistle stop tour of some of the key ideas around the book and explain why thinking like a 21st century economist is an important skill for workers like you, whatever your job.
Our organisations are trying to decarbonise while trade unions seek to ensure that we have a just transition to a new green economy for workers and communities.
Doughnut economics provides a roadmap for thinking about a green future that places public service workers in the NHS, social care, local authorities, schools, energy sector, and beyond right at the centre of the economy.
Your tutor will be Richard Speight, UNISON Area Learning & Development Organiser, a trained political economist and adult education tutor.
You will learn about:
– The concept of planetary boundaries
– The idea of the just transition
– The embedded economy model
– Doughnut Economics and your place in it
