Menter Iaith Casnewydd

Menter Iaith Casnewydd (Newport Language Initiative) exists because people from the communities of Newport declared that they wanted a Menter Iaith to be established here in the City.

Our Vision
Enabling communities to live and work through Newport Welsh language.

We will do this:
• By involving the community in planning our work
• By supporting Welsh education from infancy to the young at heart!
• Through connecting Welsh speakers, learners and those who deal with the language in their work with each other.
• By contributing positively to the vitality of the Newport community networks and businesses
• By establishing and developing constructive attitudes towards the language
• By increasing the confidence of Welsh speakers, learners and non-Welsh speakers when dealing with the language by attending our activities and through our work.
• By creating a sincere and honest picture of the language in our local area and plan appropriately to increase the use of the language and the numbers that speak Welsh in the community.
• Through building confidence and credibility within the communities of Newport as an employer, a service provider and local specialist information provider for and in the Welsh Language.
