This module provides an introduction to the art of Botanical Illustration with a heavy emphasis on drawing from observation. The history of botanical illustration, scientific techniques and terminology will be explored, thus giving the student an insight into and understanding of species and the structure of plants.
The aim of study is to provide: an introduction to the drawing and painting skills required for Botanical Illustration the skills to enable students to analyse the structure of plants and draw them to scale knowledge of different media for achieving texture, habit and form the history of illustration from early herbals to the Linnaean system of plant classification an insight into the role of women as explorers, artists and colourists.
